MATERIALS
4-ply worsted weight yarn (3-1/2 oz [100 gm], 198 yds each skein): 1 skein of white (MC); small amount each of pink (B) and black (C). Crochet hook sizes G-6 and I-9 U.S. or size to obtain gauge. Stuffing. Yarn needle. Fresh catnip (optional)
MEASUREMENTS: 4-1/2 in. long, excluding tail.
GAUGE: With larger hook, 7 sts = 2 in.
STITCHES USED: Chain st (ch). Slip st (sl st). Single crochet (sc). Half double crochet (hdc). Double crochet (dc). Dec 1 sc: * (Insert hook in next st, yo, draw yarn through st) twice, yo, draw yarn through st) twice, yo, draw yarn through 3 loops on hook.*
EMBROIDERY STITCHES USED: Satin st.

DIRECTIONS

Body: Side (make 2): Beg at bottom edge of Body, with larger hook and MC, ch 17. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across (16 sc) (mark last st as rear end), turn. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across (mark last st as tip of nose), turn. Row 3: Sl st in each of first 2 sc, sc in next sc, hdc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next sc, hdc in each of next 8 sc, sc in next sc, sl st in last sc (16 sts), turn. Row 4: Sl st in first sl st, sc in next sc, hdc in each of next 8 hdc, sl st in next sc, hdc in each of next 2 hdc, sc in next sc, sl st in each of last 2 sl sts (16 sts), turn. Fasten off, leaving a sewing length.

Assembly: With Body Side pieces aligned, using yarn needle and MC, sew 2 Sides of Body tog around 3 sides beg at tip of nose and ending at rear end, leaving bottom edges unjoined. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew Bottom in place on bottom of Body, stuffing Body before closing completely. (Note: Add fresh catnip to stuffing if desired while stuffing Body.)

Ear (make 2): With smaller hook and B, ch 4 and close into a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. Rnd 1: Work 12 dc in ring. Fasten off B. Rnd 2: With right side facing, join C in first dc, ch 1, 2 sc in each dc around. Fasten off C, leaving a sewing length. With yarn needle and sewing length, sew Ears in place on top of Body as pictures.

Tail: With smaller hook and MC, ch 12, sl st to rear end of Mouse. Fasten off. Fray 1 in. length of yarn at end of Tail.

Finishing: With yarn needle and B, satin st a 1/4 in. circle for a nose to front of Body as pictured. In same way, with C, satin st 2 eyes centered on front of Body approx 1 in. apart as pictured.
