Crochet Patterns

These photos show front and back of the same swatch. This reversible stitch makes a thick and "cushy" fabric-great for a toasty afghan! It's much easier to work than it may appear--try it!

With only a few basic stitches to learn, crochet can offer endless possibilities. I'll try to add many different kinds of stitches here in the coming months.

Swatching is sometimes bypassed to "get to the good part", but I have fun just making small samples of as many different stitches as I can find. Not only is it necessary for checking your gauge, but you can be sure that you understand how the stitch pattern works before you make that big long beginning chain!

After awhile, your samples will begin to pile up--may I suggest assembling a crochet journal? You could include little tidbits of information like: what yarn you used, what size hook, whether you enjoyed the working of the sample, and notes to yourself about what projects you might use the stitch for. Another idea: make a sampler afghan!
