Everyday Placemat Crochet

Crochet Patterns

Finished size = 18" x 14"
Size I (6.00mm) crochet hook
Gauge: Doesn't matter ... it's just a placemat *g*

NOTE: Work up one side of the chain, then down the other.

Begin: Ch 10

Rnd 1:
1 sc in 3rd ch from hook, 1 sc in each ch to last ch, 3 sc in last ch, do not turn, but do work 1 sc in each ch down the other side and 3 sc in beginning ch. DO NOT JOIN, but continue to work in rounds.

Rnd 2:
NOTE: For a textured look, work only in the backloop (blp) of each stitch.
1 sc in blp of each of next 7 sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc (1st corner formed), 1 sc in blp of next sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc (2nd corner formed), 1 sc in blp of each of the next 7 sc, 3 sc in next sc (3rd corner formed), 1 sc in blp of next sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc. (4th corner formed) Mark with a piece of thread, to note the beginning of the rounds.

Rnd 3:
1 sc in blp of next 8 sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc, (this is the center st of the previous rnd's corner) 1 sc in blp of each of the next 3 sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc, (2nd corner), 1 sc in blp of each of next 8 sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc, (3rd corner), 1 sc in blp of each of next 3 sc, 3 sc in blp of next sc (4th corner)

Continuing rnds:
Continue to work in this way, working 1 sc in each sc on sides and edges and 3 sc in center sc at each corner, until 19 rnds (or desired size) have been worked and mat measures approximately 14 x 18 " (or desired size); end last rnd by working a sl st into first sc of the most recent rnd worked.

Finish:
Work a row of crab st.
Crab st = sc worked from left to right working into both loops of each st all around, sl st into first st.
Fasten off. Work 3 more mats in same way.

NOTE: I wash these on gentle cycle and lay flat to dry to prevent shrinkage. Enjoy!
